Jardin de America Spanish School is accredited both with the Minesterio de Educacion and the Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo. Licences from both are needed to be able to give credits that universities around the world accept. Teachers are instructed to teach Spanish as a second language both in school and in a special two month course given by the administration of Jardin de America in which prospective teachers are taught the methodology, objectives and curriculum of Jardin de America. Learning another language is not so much learning a new grammar and vocabulary as it is learning a new way to think. For example in English we have the word "you". Spanish has "usted", "tu", "ustedes", "vosotros" and even the colloquial "vos". Each has a distinct meaning, each has social implication about the relationship between those in conversation. Spanish is a facinating language. Total emersion in Spanish, one on one with a navtive Spanish speaker, in a Spanish speaking country, makes the language come alive in a way your high school Spanish 101 class never could. |
